Job Announcement

Conservancy Services

Program Manager

Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy, a statewide,  
non-profit conservation organization based in Grand Ledge, Michigan,  
seeks an experienced professional to serve as its Conservancy Services  
Program Manager[1].  The Program Manager is responsible, under the  
direction of the Executive Director, for developing and implementing  
programs to strengthen land conservancies throughout Michigan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

§  Serve as coordinator of the Advancing Conservancy Excellence (ACE)  
Program in partnership with Land Trust Alliance staff to strengthen  
land conservancies and enhance their preparedness for seeking  
accreditation.
§  Plan and organize conferences, seminars and workshops for board and  
staff of land conservancies, landowners and land conservation  
professionals.
§  Provide one-on-one assistance, individualized trainings and on- 
going support to land conservancies to improve the quality,  
professionalism and effectiveness of their land conservation work and  
to build their organizational capacity.
§  Develop and implement strategies to coordinate and strengthen the  
state land trust movement through land trust partnerships,  
collaborations, staff sharing arrangements and mergers.
§  Facilitate networking and establish a mentoring program between  
land trusts.
§  Give public presentations and provide technical information and  
educational resources to land conservancies through a variety of media.
§  Develop a proactive strategy to heighten the visibility of land  
conservancies and conservation successes to various audiences  
including media and policymakers.
§  Lead the development of an on-line clearinghouse to be housed on  
the Heart of the Lakes website to provide models, tools, and  
information resources to conservancies and conservation partners.
§  Respond to general requests for information and assistance.
§  Work with government agencies on programs for land protection and  
stewardship to ensure land conservancies can use those programs  
effectively.
§  Develop and implement educational programs for landowner advisors  
and other professionals.
§  Represent Heart of the Lakes on steering committees, task forces,  
technical advisory committees
§  Offer advice on conservation policy issues and seek conservancy  
member input as needed.
Experience/Skills

§  Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
§  Direct experience in working with/for a land conservancy or related  
conservation organization.
§  Understanding of land conservation issues and role of conservancies.
§  Ability to manage complex projects, working well independently and  
with others.
§  Able to lead others toward accomplishing goals.
§  Experience in planning and managing events, workshops and meetings.
§  Demonstrated ability in cultivating partnerships and facilitating  
collaborations.
§  Well-organized with excellent attention to detail.
§  Strong follow-through and ability to meet strict deadlines.
§  Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
§  Ability to work well in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
