Hello, this position is on the jobs site at LTA, but I thought it might help
to send it to the listservs as well - you never know who might read it!
We here at Chikaming Open Lands (located in Berrien County, on the shores of
beautiful Lake Michigan) are looking to hire our first Executive Director.
The ED would be responsible for the implementation of all Board Policies of
Chikaming Open Lands so that the organization may succeed in its mission to
protect the open space and diverse natural character of Southwest Berrien
County. This position is the primary liaison to the Board of Directors,
members, and the communities which we serve. This position reports to the
President of the Board and all other staff positions report directly or
indirectly to this position.
Specific Responsibilities:
Planning and Leadership
- Annually review and update as necessary the Strategic Plan and recommended
programs that support the Plan and are reflective of our mission and values.
Review the Plan and programs with the Board.
- Work with the staff to develop annual work plans to carry out the
strategic programs referenced above.
- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to all staff positions of
COL. This includes recruiting and hiring staff positions that have been
approved by the Board.
- Work with the President and the Treasurer to develop an annual budget to
accomplish the necessary work of the organization.
Administration
- Motivate and direct the day-to-day work of the staff. Provide feedback on
the performance of all staff and annually and provide each staff member a
performance and salary review.
- Report to the Board at their scheduled Board meetings progress of major
activities including land transactions, financial reports, major stewardship
projects, and others items as necessary.
- Provide staff support to the Board of Directors and the various working
committees of Chikaming Open Lands. Attend committee meetings to provide
direction and support.
- Oversee grant applications and track progress of all grants that have been
awarded to COL. Assure timely completion of all necessary reporting.
- Assist as directed by the President of the Board in special projects such
as Accreditation, major fund raising, membership and community events, and
other activities as requested.
Funding
- Develop and lead an effective program to obtain grants and other funding
that will support COL's operations and plans.
- Maintain positive relations with individual, corporate and foundation
donors.
- Assist as directed with annual fund raising and major fund raising
campaigns.
Public and Community Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with various community organizations
and landowners to promote the plans and programs of COL. Promote awareness
and support of COL's mission.
- Oversee, working with staff, all COL publications and press releases.
- Act as the Primary Community spokesperson for COL.
Preferred Qualifications:
. Experience with the land conservation effort demonstrating capability to
serve as an Executive Director
. BS degree, or equivalent, in an environmental or conservation discipline
. Excellent interpersonal skills working with both a staff and board and
with members of the community
. Excellent communication skills
. Highly motivated and goal oriented
Compensation
. Salary $50,000 - $75,000 depending on experience and qualifications
. Health Insurance and Simple IRA Retirement Plan
